Research Interests

My research activities are directed towards the study of infinite groups with a view toward number theory. For instance, I am interested in arithmetic groups and p-adic Lie groups. Other problems that I work on concern more general profinite groups. These occur rather naturally as Galois groups of infinite field extensions. Here is my list of publications.

Presently, I serve as an editor of the Archiv der Mathematik and the Journal of Group Theory. I am involved in the DFG-Research Training Group GRK 2240. In April 2024 we are hosting a Felix-Klein-Kolloquium, on the occasion of Klein's 175th birthday. In August 2024 Holger Kammeyer and I are organising a summer school on Analytic and Arithmetic Groups.

Locally, I organise an Advanced Seminar on Group Theory and, with my colleagues, the Oberseminar Algebra und Geometrie. During the summer semester I teach Algebra for second year students and an avanced course on Ordered Fields; I also run a Proseminar on Number Theory.
